I am privileged to be the Director of Chipmunks in the Forest. It is so wonderful to come to work every day with such lovely children and families. I am passionate about the first 5 years of life as this is the time a child’s brain grows the most. I have been a teacher for more than 40 years in both schools and preschools and I love my job. My family is important to me as I have 5 daughters and 13 grandchildren plus 2 greatgrandchildren.

I was inspired to work in childcare ever since I was in high school. I was told I couldn’t have children so it inspired me to work with them. I love being able to help children learn and grow. Having the opportunity to help guide a child’s learning always has me thinking outside the box when planning experiences. I am qualified in my Certificate III in Early Childhood education and care. I love making resources and watching the children explore them.

What our parents ask about preschool Ambarvale

Finding the perfect preschool for your child and family is no easy task. We know you must have many questions, so please find the answers below to some FAQs on childcare.

What is the best age to go to preschool in Ambarvale?

Ambarvale preschools often will not enrol children until they are 2 years or even some 3 years of age. This is due to the rooms often being larger and not having the facilities to accommodate younger children i.e. changing areas and cots, so they will usually only allow you to enrol if you children in completely toilet trained. Long child cares however follow the same school readiness guides to prepare your child for school and can also help with toilet training and offer support if your child is not quite ready to be out of nappies.

What is the difference between kindy and childcare?

Kindy often refers to a preschool which is open for short hours and usually will only cater for children above 2 years old, sometime 3 years old, whereas childcare is a long day open for longer hours and often caters for children below 2 years also.

What is the best age to start childcare?

You will see benefits from starting your child in childcare at any ages. Often when they are older then can take a while longer to settle in as they have developed strong bonds with their family and the initial separation can be quite overwhelming. When children are younger, they are usually more open to bonding with others and therefore attach to their educators easier, making the initially separation a lot easier. If you cannot afford or do not want to enrol your child at an earlier age you can do quite a lot to support them for when you choose to enrol them, such as leaving them with family and friends for a few hours at a time to make them more social with others and therefore able to adapt when left with other adults.

What is the best time of the day for a child to learn?

Children are constantly learning, even when falling asleep they are learning to regulate themselves, eating times they are learning self-help skills by feeding themselves or learning new textures and tastes. Our programs are developed to harness optimal learning times which are usually in the morning, after having something to eat for morning tea or in the afternoon, again after having afternoon tea. These seem to be optimal times for when children are regulated and can focus on more difficult experiences.
